Malaysia Business Leadership Awards 2010 Education & Training: Private Sector

UNITEN Vice Chancellor, Syed Prof Dato' Ir. Dr. Mashkuri Yaacob was honored the Malaysia Business Leadership Awards 2010 - Education & Training: Private Sector. The ceremony was held on 22 May 2010 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The event was jointly organised by the Kuala Lumpur Malay Chamber of Commerce (KLMCC) and The Leaders Magazine, a leading industrial magazine in the country.

With this award, we can see that the education in UNITEN has good quality and is recognized by many companies. Besides that, the award also shows that UNITEN produce good quality graduates, graduates who are competitive, good in presenting themselves, has good leadership, innovative and creative. 

• It is designed to recognize and promote excellence, best practices, innovations and outstanding performances amongst the Malaysian Business Community. 

• The recipients of the award were chosen through a stringent  and rigorous selection process, undertaken by a prestigious panel of judges comprising of prominent and distinguished Malaysians who themselves have excelled in their respective fields.

• The recipients epitomize the core values of a successful business leader, demonstrating knowledge, strength, ingenuity, innovation and foresight in leadership.  The presence of these values is essential in the development of a prosperous and sustainable economy.

The MBLA; to recognize entrepreneurs, corporate leaders and outstanding personalities of Malaysia, making up the Malaysian Business Community who had excelled in their respective business undertakings. Although there are many business awards being offered every year by various organizations, we believe that MBLA will be regarded as a true recognition of achivement by would-be-recipents because of its quality and application of strict judging standards and processes presided over by an independent panel of judges made up eminent Malaysian reflecting the concept of One Malaysia.

London Quality Crown Award, the coolest name for an award.

Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) is to be honoured with the IQC International Quality Crown Award in the Gold Category which will be presented in London on November 29, 2010. This award which is brought by the Business Initiative Directions (B.I.D) is given in recognition to those companies or organisations in different countries throughout the world that further their reputation and position by implementing and promoting quality culture.

The award recognizes and encourages the contribution of organisations to quality, continuous improvement and customer satisfaction as well as improving relations with employees, suppliers and all those associated with the organisation. The award presentation will take place during the International Quality Convention in London, on 28 - 29 November in the Ballroom of the Guoman Tower, London.

As the saying goes, "quality is never an accident, it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction and skilful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives". With strong commitment and support, UNITEN will continue to uphold its quality pledge in ensuring the provision of educational excellence services to mankind. What do I say? All and all, an award is just an award that is meant to be display on the shelf. In a big organisation like UNITEN, the amount or the levels of awards that we received do not reflect the integrity of students. Obviously, cheating is still a huge deal in the campus. But at least, we're on the right track to achieve our vision of being the top universities in Asia right?

UNITEN  or University of Tenaga Nasional have gain a lot of award and achievement since the establishment, one of the award is The Brandlaureate 2008-2009 Best Brand in Educational award. This award is covering in field of engineering and ICT(information and communication technology).


The Brandlaureate Award is a conceptualized to honor brand excellence amongts the best of brands in Malaysia and the world. It is awarded to deserving brands from multinationals(MNCs), trans-national corporations(TNCs), large corporations(LCs), public-listed companies(PLCs) and goverment-linked companies(GLCs) that have shown best practices in branding and met the stringent selection criteria of the award. 


As teh definition of laureate is one that is worthy of the greatest honor or distinction. winning the BrandLaureate Awards is a defining moment as it is testimony of the brand's success and an endorsement of being with the best and acknowledgement of the brand's value, strength and character. For this award to be obtain, UNITEN must need to fulfill the awards criteria that is based on 300-points selection consisting of brand strategy, brand culture, integrated brand communications, brand equity and brand performance.


The areas covered are, brand strategy or identity with a 100 points, brand culture with 40 points, Intergrated Brand Communications with 70 points, brand equity with 40 points and lastly brand performance or profitability with 50 points. This award shows that UNITEN is serious in providing the best course and up to standard for field in engineering and ICT and make a student who graduate from UNITEN became excellent in what they do and ready to work in the outside world that is full of competitors.

Prime Minister's Award for Industry Excellence and Quality Management Excellence Award (QMEA) - Category III for the year 2009.

Prime Minister award for Industry Excellence

The Prime Minister's Award for Industry Excellence is the Government's effort in recognising local companies who have displayed excellence in organisation, innovation and corporate social responsibility. Participating companies are evaluated based on eight key criteria which comprise of Top Management Leadership and Management of Quality, Use of Quality Data and Information, Human Resource Management, Customer Focus, Quality Assurance of External Suppliers, Process Management, Quality and Operational/Business Results and Corporate Social Responsibility.

The award was presented by YB Dato' Sri Mustapa Mohamed, Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI) to Y. Bhg. Tan Sri Leo Moggie, TNB Chairman during its ceremony held on March 25, 2010 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center. Also present was YB Dato' Mukhriz Mahathir, Deputy Minister of MITI and Y. Bhg. Dato' Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, President/CEO of TNB.

Apart from UNITEN, Tenaga Switchgear Sdn. Bhd. was listed among the finalists for QMEA Category II.

It is an award that really meant alot to UNITEN because this award symbolises the recognition of UNITEN's efforts in achieving quality and excellence in providing education service to the nation. In the past few years, UNITEN has made progress in quality management through quality assurance and performance monitoring system. UNITEN's Quality Initiative Framework (QIF) consists of quality excellence awards; academic performance audits; QMS ISO and Quality Environment (QE) certifications; internalization of core values - Integrity, Customer Focus, Business Excellence and Caring; Quality Month; and Safety Excellence Management System (SEMS). UNITEN has made excellent marks through teaching, research and scholarship in the areas of engineering, information technology, and business. UNITEN represented Malaysia in the 2009 World Solar Challenge; emerged as the first university in Malaysia to obtain QE certification; won the National QE award in 2008, won various national and international research and innovation awards; and a recipient of research grants from Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation (MOSTI) and Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE).

Established as an independent college of education of the Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) on the 1st of September 2003, the College of Information Technology (COIT) is positioning itself for this venture. Its evolution dates back since the inception of UNITEN in 1997, as a Department of Computer Science and Information Technology being a department under the College of Engineering. The growth and expansion of the department is manifested by the decision of UNITEN's management to erect a conducive and elegant structure which, on the 15th of September 2004, became the operational centre of the College of Information Technology. Systems and Networking: Real World Computing

Bachelors Degree in Computer Science (Computer Systems & Networking) or better known as BCN emphasizes on three main aspects which are technical knowledge, technical skills and social skills. This program was specifically designed to support the objectives if the faculty, which is to produce graduates that are informative, highly skilled and competitive in the field of Computer Science and Networking.

Computer Science program students should be able to present their knowledge and understanding in the theories and principles of Computer Science. Produce marketable software with commercial values accepted by the global market. Design application systems by utilizing standard software development processes (planning, requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing and maintenance).
